1. Milestone-based roadmaps
Physical error rate and stability. Demonstrated logical error suppression with increasing code distance. Logical gate quality and repeated error-correction cycles. Resource-efficient logical operations and magic-state production. Useful workload performance against strong classical baselines.
Milestones are more reliable than calendar promises.
2. Company and platform diligence
Assess scientific differentiation, full-stack dependencies, manufacturing path, talent concentration, patent quality, capital intensity, customer access, benchmark transparency, and whether a roadmap depends on unresolved physics.
The best technology does not automatically become the best business.
3. Organizational strategy
Organizations should build literacy, map use cases, prepare cybersecurity, develop partnerships, test narrow proofs of concept, and preserve optionality. Internal capability should match the expected timing and strategic relevance of the field.
A disciplined strategy combines preparation with skepticism and avoids both dismissal and overcommitment.
4. Applied activity
Advanced exercise: derive or simulate one representative result from this module, document assumptions, and produce a one-page technical interpretation for a non-specialist decision maker.
